Who Can Participate:
Those wishing to participate in the SHARP Program must apply during their Junior year of High School. While SHARP is specifically designed to attract and increase underrepresented students' (Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Female) participation and success rates in mathematics and science - students of any background may apply.
The SHARP Program is only open to students within commuting distance of a participating NASA Field Center. For those who do not fit this requirement, the SHARP Plus Program is also available. Students must be available on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) for the entire duration of the 8 week program. Vacations are not allowed during these 8 weeks from mid-June through mid-August.
If a student has done well in the program and wishes to participate a second year, he/she may apply again during the senior year. However, if a prospectiive student is not accepted in the junior year application process, he/she cannot apply again the following year. A student can participate in SHARP a maximum of 2 summers.
This website is devoted to the SHARP program at Ames Research Center, located in Moffett Field, CA. However, there are several other NASA facilities hosting SHARP programs. Please visit the main SHARP page for more information on these other locations.

High School juniors who reside within commuting distances to one of these NASA Centers or Facilities may contact the offices listed above for application information, or download the application off this site.
